How did Neighbourhood Support
come about in NZ?'


Neighbourhood Watch originated in the United States around the 1950’s and spread throughout Canada, UK, Australia and then reached NZ during the 1970’s. Neighbourhood Support NZ was established and became an incorporated society in 2000


And here we are today…


NS Districts encompass the 12 Police Districts

Kawerau is a division of the Bay Of Plenty District

There are 58 affiliated areas who facilitate Neighbourhood Support (NS) in communities across NZ 

As at March 2017; 13,352 groups established in urban communities and 1,803 groups established in rural communities, encompassing 161,025 households 


Neighbourhood Support Areas have 31,702 ‘likes’ on Facebook
